A Comparative Study of Flows Through Funnel-Shaped Bottlenecks Placed in the Middle and Corner

Upon exiting buildings, theatres, and stadiums, which house a great number of people, egress points can act as bottlenecks, resulting in crowded exits decreased flows. Most studies investigating flow have been conducted either narrow bottlenecks (doors) or funnel shape with the latter placed middle walkway. This study investigates, for first time, crowd through funnel-shaped corner walkway makes comparisons similar same length, entrance exit width The entry were 3 m 1 respectively, lengths varying from to 4 m; they continued into 10 corridor. Ninety-four participants various ages observed moving each configurations. results indicated that using increased rate significantly compared 2 lengths. is contrary what some other researchers found wall, although it recognised configuration comparison more complex further work required this area. Notwithstanding these are considered valuable consideration when designing corridors buildings such metro train stations.
